Serves as senior ASC staff member at field camp. Responsible for all aspects of the daily operation, maintenance and management of field camp facilities in accordance with the standard operating procedures outlined for the camp situation and the season plan. Coordinates, manages and directs all aspects of the field science program, including safety orientation for all new personnel and environmental protocols. Adheres to program schedules, works directly with the Field Leadership Team and Principal Investigators (and/or field team leads) to plan and execute the science plan.
Directs the efforts of all ASC camp staff, visiting trade personnel, and distinguished visitors. Responsibilities can include coordination of air support, supervision of ASC employees, cooking, communications, weather observation, skiway construction, equipment operation, digging, certification of hazardous cargo, cargo movement, and camp construction.
Position Responsibilities:
Ensures the camp facilities and equipment are maintained and operated safely. Ensures that that the camp is tidy, and that waste is retrograded throughout the season. Responsible for all hazardous cargo identification, labeling, and handling prior to shipping back to McMurdo Station via fixed wing aircraft.
Communicates professionally with their staff to relay information needed to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, structured trainings, standard operating procedures, and safety practices.
Maintains detailed records of camp operations including fuel figures, camp population, flight information, weather observations, and emergency response incidents.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
A minimum of four years combined experience in any of the following areas: weather reporting, equipment operation, cargo movement, fuel operations, skiway construction, camp construction, expedition outfitting in polar climates or high-altitude winter settings, National Park service positions, outdoor education, experience working with helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, guiding services, and/or logistics.

Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
