At Piedmont Airlines, our strength lies in the exceptional service we deliver to our customers and airline partners. To uphold our standard of excellence, we are seeking a motivated and reliable leader to join our People and Communications team as a Workers’ Compensation Supervisor. This role provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for Piedmont’s self-insured workers’ compensation program. The ideal candidate will bring at least three years of experience managing workers’ compensation claims and will play a critical role in shaping policies and practices that support injured employees and align with company goals. This position will report to the Manager, Employee Benefits.
Essential Duties:
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of claims professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance
Oversee the self-insured workers’ compensation program with a focus on reducing injury frequency, severity, and costs
Ensure day-to-day operations, including claims processing and return-to-work initiatives, run smoothly and efficiently
Evaluate complex and high-exposure claims, making timely and sound decisions that balance risk mitigation with employee support
Serve as the employer representative with the Third-Party Administrator (TPA), legal counsel, and other external partners
Conduct regular audits of claims to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with company standards
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)
Maintain appropriate documentation and reporting, including OSHA logs and internal metrics
Stay informed of regulatory changes and adjust internal practices as needed
Analyze claims and leave data to identify trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for process improvement
Present actionable insights and implement strategic solutions to enhance program performance and efficiency
Develop and deliver training, tools, and resources to support managers in navigating workers’ compensation policies and procedures
Address escalated issues with empathy and provide timely, effective resolutions
Drive continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements, exploring automation opportunities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align and innovate claims management practices
Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed in a dynamic team environment
Job Qualifications and Competencies:
Three (3) years of experience managing or adjusting workers’ compensation claims
Experience with multi-state workers’ compensation programs, preferably in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia
Familiarity with workers’ compensation claims management software
Working knowledge of related employee benefits programs and leave administration (e.g., FMLA, ADA, disability insurance)
Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
Ability to manage deadlines and priorities independently in a remote or hybrid environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior supervisory experience
Professional designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Claims (AIC)
Experience working with self-insured workers’ compensation programs in a multi-state environment
Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and unionized workforces
Knowledge of absence management programs
Work Environment:
Standard office environment, use of telephones, computers, and other office equipment
Occasional travel will be required

Starting Rate:
