As a Combustion Fellow Intern in the Aerothermal Mechanical Systems Lab, you will have a role in advancing the technology readiness level of combustion solutions that enable the future of flight: sustainable, high speed, and next generation propulsion. You will participate in the modeling, design, analysis, and/or assembly of test rigs, test equipment, and test articles that push the state of the art of combustion systems, fuel flexibility, and dynamics. 

At GE Aerospace Research, scientists, engineers, and technicians innovate for the future of flight. An internship with us will provide valuable hands-on experience to help you launch your career in industrial research.  Intern assignments are typically for 12-14 weeks; working side by side with experts in the field of mechanical engineering, completing challenging technical projects and applying theoretical knowledge to real-life technical problems.  This program includes seminars on cross-center technology and soft skills development as well as opportunities for networking and showcasing project accomplishments.  

Required Qualifications

       Current enrollment in a full-time Ph.D. degree program in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines at an ABET accredited university

       This role requires use of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or security clearance to access classified information.  Therefore, employment is contingent upon your ability to prove that you meet the qualification of being a US Citizen.

       Willingness to work on the Niskayuna NY GE Aerospace campus.

       Minimum GPA 3.0 / 4.0 scale

Eligibility Requirements: Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Due to the nature of our projects, US Citizenship is required.

       Strong interpersonal skills, initiative and organization; demonstrated ability working with a team

       Strong problem solving skills, thorough attention to detail

       Experience with aero and/or combustion modeling tools such as Python, Matlab, Cantera, Ansys, Comsol, NPSS, CAD Software

       Experience with experimental diagnostic techniques such as PIV, PLIF 

The pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. The specific weekly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.  GE provides travel reimbursement and housing stipend for qualified interns.
